#playlikebray FOUNDATION
Braydin Adam Lewis was born October 18, 2003, and grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Braydin got his first pair of skates when he was 2 years old and loved watching his dad, Adam Lewis, play for the Fort Wayne Komets. Braydin began skating on house league teams in Fort Wayne, IN and always had the dream to play at "a better level than his dad".
Braydin's competitiveness, energetic personality and love for hockey landed him on several travel teams and local high school teams. Braydin began skating with the Tri-State Spartans Hockey Club from 2016-2018. At 15 years old, Braydin moved to Chicago to play with the Chicago Fury Hockey Club during his 2019-2020 season. In 2020, Braydin joined the USPHL Metro Jets team (Detroit MI) and began playing his first year of junior hockey at the age of 16. The Metro Jets Organization became Braydin's family away from home and was his biggest supporter from the day he arrived. Braydin played for 3 seasons with the Metro Jets Organization, skating in 121 games with 18 goals and 51 assists.
In May of 2022, while at the Nationals Tournament, Braydin suffered a seizure after the first game. Braydin was taken to a local hospital and an CT scan confirmed that Braydin had a mass on his brain. In May of 2022, Braydin had a resection of a large tumor that was located on the front right lobe. Shortly after the tumor was removed, Braydin received the news that the tumor was a Grade 4 Glioblastoma.
Braydin’s competitiveness luckily never left his side. He battled through the summer of 2022 and had one of the best summers of his life. He was able to wake surf, hang with friends on the lake and continued skating again. Braydin was determined that cancer was not going to win. In August of 2022, the Metro Jet resigned Braydin and he began his season with the Jets by playing in 6 games, scoring 3 goals and 1 assist.
In October of 2022, Braydin began having vertigo issues and another MRI was ordered.
It was determined that Braydin had a large mass on the lower portion of his brain stem that was in operable. Braydin began radiation therapy in December of 2022 and continued to fight through each day with a positive attitude. Braydin continued his workouts in the gym and was even able to get back on the ice in January of 2023 to attempt to regain his “Thor” strength. Unfortunately, on April 15, 2023, surrounded by family and friends, Braydin’s courageous battle ended.
Along with his parents, Adam and Kristen Lewis, and Braydin’s older brother Corbin and several other family and friends, we are committed to carry on the love, strength and passion for life and hockey that Braydin displayed to all that knew him. The #playlikebray fund has been established to offer a financial award to junior hockey players locally and in Mt. Clemens, MI, where Braydin finished his junior season with the Metro Jet’s Organization.
